Been driving back and forth across WA visiting relatives. Very tired, ready for break. Driving to South Australia definitely out of question, even if gym membership & paraphernalia didn't cost more than I thought!
Speaking of, I feel I made a good decision with the gym membership. The facilities and staff are very good. I went for the appraisal session two days ago and my shoulder blades and my abs are still owchy, but I am a little stronger than I thought. I had a reminder of why strength training is a good idea last night: My shoulder/neck pain directly correlates to my wisdom teeth hurting like anything... discovering I could fix tooth pain with a shoulder massage was neat, though.
Job applications are my biggest issue right now. I hoped to get some assistance from the job network provider (Australia's welfare system assigns job searchers to private job search/recruitment offices), but they were very short with me and fobbed me off last time I went. These are also the people who assumed I didn't know Office for Mac exists after I told them I'd been working in IT for over 10 years, so I'm rather ill-disposed. *huff*
Anyway, the most immediate issue with job searching is the massive writer's block/mind-freeze I get when writing cover letters. I may take on the same attitude I had with writing fiction (which is still improving at least), and attempt gradual improvement, even if that means very poor cover letters to start with. That probably also means I'll be unemployed and poor for a while yet, but if I build up to a certain ability and maintain it at least I won't be totally incapacitated when I have to do this again in future.
But jeez, I had a half-joking offer for a job on a pig farm and am seriously considering it and if that's not a good indication of how over IT I am, I don't know what is... Sigh.
I won't pack myself off there just yet. I am considering returning to study, and need to make some calls when the working week starts again. I'll write about that depending on how well it works out.
